Wish — Movie Review
Spoilers Ahead
Wish is Disney’s latest entry in the animation world. The movie was released to coincide with Disney’s 100th birthday. It’s hard to believe that in 1923, Walt Disney, the creator of Disney Land, would build an animation and theme park empire. This empire stretches from Florida to California and all across the globe with theme parks in Paris and Shanghai.
The Disney Company has not only contributed to the big screen but the small screen as well. Disney is responsible for many evening programming on ABC and the Disney Channel. It even has a partnership with another entertainment juggernaut, Marvel Studios. I’m sure Walt Disney never envisioned his dreams to become such a huge part of American life, as well as impact millions on a global scale.
Now Wish has been added to Disney’s cadre of animated movies. Wish is the story of Asha, a teen girl who lives with her mother and grandfather in the kingdom of Rosas. Rosas was founded by Magnifico when he was a young man as a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to live, work, and play in harmony.
To ensure that the kingdom would always have protection, Magnifico spent many years studying magic. He uses the magic to help his kingdom prosper. In return, the citizens give him their wishes upon their 18th birthday. One day, Asha interviews to become the king’s magical apprentice. It’s a coveted job allowing the apprentice to learn the secrets of magic from Magnifico himself.
