Our Lives Don’t Matter to the Police
Amid nationwide protests, a pending TikTok ban, and a war in the Middle East, we mustn’t forget the added problem of racism and police brutality. A few days ago, a young Black Man was gunned down at his door by police officers in Florida.
In a widely viewed video, the officers arrive at the young man’s apartment and bang furiously on the door, yelling for it to be opened. When the man opens the door, he has a gun. Keep in mind that the video shows the gun pointed toward the floor and not at any officers. Upon seeing the weapon, the officer opens fire, striking the young man in his chest and arm. The young man was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The initial investigation revealed that the officers may have gone to the wrong apartment and that the young Black man was a victim of mistaken identity. Nevertheless, he is gone, and his family wants answers. The family has already hired an attorney and demanded a full investigation into the shooting.
