Blast something funky that shakes your soul

I had to put together a bookcase today. I was not looking forward to the task. I’m an avid book collector and reader. I don’t know how many books I have but it’s safe to say that the number is in the hundreds. Some books have been with me for decades while others have only been with me a few days. I love books and have a difficult time parting with them.

My hoarding tendencies aside, I needed to put together the bookcase. I had about fifty books that needed to be shelved. My other bookcases were full (and one was falling apart). The books were all over the floor. Some were in small piles. Others were scattered haphazardly. They were blocking my path out of my living room, so they had to be picked up.

I cranked on some music which is another one of my interests. I’ve been dancing and singing to Pop, Hip Hop, and RnB since childhood. Anything with a beat puts the rhythm in my feet. Peppy songs also help me focus and forget my troubles. It’s hard to sulk when your favorite artist is throwing out bars.

I started with Billboard’s Top Ten songs of 2021. Perfect choice. Many of the songs I knew from TikTok. They are heavily sampled by creators on that platform. So when I heard the songs, I could understand why they were so popular. They were upbeat with colorful language and catchy lyrics.

Next, I played some Reggae and Soca music. Now, this genre really gets your body moving! If you want a workout, crank up some Reggae tunes and Soca hits. You’ll be covered in sweat within minutes. I was shaking my phat fanny all over the living room.

Before I knew it the bookcase was set up and the books were on the shelves. Time had flown. It didn’t seem like work. I had fun dancing and singing. The music kept my mind off of the actual chore. Music is the perfect distraction. It makes tasks a lot easier to accomplish.

So, if you have something that you need to do turn on some music. Play your favorite artists. Listen to the radio. Dust off those albums. Turn on Spotify, Apple Music, or Pandora. And get it done with your bad self!
