When Technology is Terrible

My Laptop is on its last leg

As I type this piece, my laptop screen is crooked. One side is broken while the other side is still intact. I don’t know how much longer this situation will last. I need to make arrangements to get my documents off of this laptop before the screen totally detaches. I would hate to spend money at Geek Squad or some other tech repair place.

I am a devotee of laptops. I use to love desktops and I still have one in my office. But laptops are definitely better for me. I’m always out and about and need technology that is portable. I also have an IPad which I’m using for my art.

My laptop is for my writing. I’m always typing away on it, posting my poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Now as I reevaluate my teaching career, writing has become even more necessary. I need to make a living as a writer.

That’s why I need reliable technology. This laptop has been my partner in writing for over three years. I had hoped it would last at least two more years. But its current condition makes that doubtful. I need to upgrade my laptop and soon.

This laptop will begin the next phase of my professional life. This life may find me outside of the classroom but inside something greater, I’m still trying to figure out what that might be. I’m both excited and scared. There are so many variables to consider — bills, food, mortgage, etc. But I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m tired of being on the outside looking in. Many people, especially women, are going for their dreams. I need to go for mine — with my laptop by my side.
