America’s Birth was Founded on Violence

Silence is violence. Ignorance is violence. Hate is violence. Hunger is violence. Injustice is violence. Violence injures and kills. We can’t seem to get it together.

Do we no longer care? Where is the humanity?

Every day in America, violence is a way of life. Violence means power. Violence means control. Violence means fear.

Why are we so afraid of each other?

To be Black in this country means to be covered in a hue of violence. A gift from our ancestors who survived so we can be here today. Their survival was an act of resistance against the violence inflicted on them.

Our ancestors want us to survive. The future is Black.

America knows nothing about peace. When it’s not fighting a foreign adversary, it’s fighting itself. Men against men. Women against women. Children against children. Neighbor against neighbor. The violence never ends. It’s ingrained into our beings.

How can we teach our children and grandchildren to choose peace?

Legislation is violence. Lack of access is violence. Forcing communities to live in unsafe and unsanitary conditions is violence. A person’s right to arm themselves is more important than public safety. Violence is who we are. Military bases…
