And why did a woman have to die?

Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague died on the set of “Rust.” Hutchins was a cinematographer who was killed by a single gunshot wound fired from a gun that was supposed to contain blanks. The gun was fired by actor, Alec Baldwin, who was told that the gun was “cold.” A “cold gun” is one that has been checked for live ammunition and either contains no ammunition and/or blanks.

My question is this — why wasn’t checked by the two people who handled the gun before giving it to Baldwin? Baldwin, who had a stake in the film, was devastated by the accident. Baldwin stated that Hutchins “was my friend.” Well, I hate to see what Baldwin does to his enemies!

The movie has been plagued by issues prior to the tragedy. Crew members walked off the set days before the incident in protest of the safety conditions. When the police searched the set, live ammunition was found. Why do you need live ammunition? That’s a question that needs to be answered.

I’m frustrated by the fact that Hutchins is dead. Her death could have been prevented. People should have thoroughly checked the firearm. Baldwin should have done a final check. Also, why did he point the gun in Hutchin’s direction? Even if it were a prop gun, you shouldn’t be pointing it at people. It seems common sense was placed on the backburner in favor of money.

My prayers to Hutchins and her family. I’m sure they’re beyond devastated. And I’m sure the police are looking to zero in on who is truly responsible for Hutchins’ death. People need to take responsibility for her killing. Those who were responsible for prop guns or real guns need to step up. A woman is dead and there’s no excuse for that.
