A Holiday that Has Special Meaning

Christmas 2024 is here. It is a day full of gift-giving and gift-getting. The streets are full of holiday lights. The houses are decorated with ornaments and wreaths. People hustle about carrying cards and packages for their families and friends. It’s a lovely time of year.

This year, we had a white Christmas. It's the first one in years. Global warming has made white Christmases less common. We had a snowstorm the Friday before the holiday, and the temperatures dropped. Therefore, the snow hasn’t melted away. So, it was nice to see snow on the ground, trees, and rooftops.

Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays. Christmas has been a fantastic event in our home since I was a little girl. My mother loved Christmas. It was one of the few times she would go all out each year. Every Christmas, we would have a pile of presents under the tree.

We were poor — but never on Christmas. We’d spend the morning opening presents, watching holiday cartoons, and eating Christmas candy. Mom would cook a big Christmas dinner, and we’d eat and play the night away. For one day out of the year, my brother and I felt like the most affluent kids on the block. Anything we wanted, Santa would deliver (until we became older and realized it was Mom). We appreciated everything we were given. It made…
