Where’s the Humanity?
The Charlie Kirk shooting illustrated that Americans can’t discuss or settle their difference without causing harm. When Kirk was shot while giving a speech to students at a Utah college event, the country went into a tailspin. Republicans immediately blamed Democrats for Kirk’s murder. Democrats pointed out the Republicans’, particularly MAGA, extreme viewpoints and dangerous rhetoric. Regardless of how people felt about Kirk and his ideology, his death is another stain on the nation.
The United States is possibly the most violent nation on the planet. We worship guns over the lives of children, women, and the elderly. American terrorists have shot up parking lots, grocery stores, nightclubs, schools, churches, and movie theaters — just to name a few places. No space in this country is safe from someone’s mental instability and ideological rage.
Most of the shooters are young, White men, and this was the case in the Kirk shooting. A college student, Tyler Robinson, is the suspected assailant responsible for Kirk’s death. In the days leading up to the shooting, Robinson was researching and tracking Kirk’s schedule online and made several statements about Kirk to family and friends.
