New info on this tragedy
Tyre Nichols has been laid to rest.
He leaves behind a young son, his parents, and a host of extended family, friends, and community members.
His killers sit in jail. Two more officers, both white, have been relieved of their duties.
Three EMTs have been fired from their positions due to their negligence in handling Nichols’ injuries.
Despite the progress made in the case, there are still many questions that need to be answered.
Why did the police officers, who were wearing body cams, and in an area that had cameras believe that their actions against Nichols wouldn’t be questioned?
Why had Nichols been stopped in the first place?
Why did the Memphis Police Department create the SCORPION unit in the first place?
Police reform must happen. How long do Black citizens need to suffer under draconian and deadly police practices?
What will the federal government do to help crack down on police brutality?
Black people are past being sick and tired of how we’re treated in this country. We are American citizens! We deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. But we’re treated like rabid animals that need to be put down.
A storm has long since been brewing. A reckoning is coming.
American society will feel our pain.
