Ukraine, Russia, and the World

Are we on the eve of World War III?

The Biden Administration faces a major international challenge. Russia has mustered a massive military force on the border of Ukraine. The build-up has been happening for weeks and as each week passes, Biden and his team grow more and more concerned.

Biden has met with Putin, Russia’s leader, who assures Biden that Russia isn’t going to invade Ukraine. But intel paints a different picture. There are rumors that Putin wants to install a pro-Russia leader to lead Ukraine. Russian military tanks and armaments are being stockpiled on the border. In Ukraine, the country has received military support from its neighbors and especially from the United States.

What has caused all this ruckus? Ukraine wants to join NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). If Ukraine joins NATO, the government will gain more resources for its country and solidify its own sovereignty from Russia. Russia does not want that to happen.

The possibility of a NATO alliance has caused the build-up from Russia. The United States has sent its Secretary of State to meet with Russia’s Secretary of State to discuss a de-escalation of hostilities and the possibility of economic sanctions. Biden, in recent days, has suggested U.S. military involvement as well.

If the U.S. becomes involved the action could lead to World War III. In my opinion, the entire world is on edge. The pandemic is still raging around the globe. People are tired and stressed due to lockdowns and mask mandates. The shipping crisis is still affecting deliveries of goods. Tensions are high.

War is not what the world needs or wants. Russia may want it but Biden doesn’t. We have enough issues in the U.S. and have to focus on our own problems. Our democracy is in peril per CNN. Trump and his ilk are still active and getting stronger in certain regions of the country. If our democracy falls, the world falls.
