Trump’s fourth indictment moves America closer to an election precipice

Analysis by Stephen Collinson, CNN

From CNN Politics — CNN.com —

The most astonishing aspect of former President Donald Trump’s fourth criminal indictment is not the scale of an alleged multi-layered conspiracy to steal Georgia’s electoral votes in 2020 from their rightful winner.

It isn’t? Trump is facing a RICO charge that will definitely place him in prison. While I’m happy that the Georgia AG has thrown the book at Trump and his conspirators, I still wonder if this had been Obama, he would already be sweating it out in a prison cell. Trump’s luck is still with him. He’s not behind bars — yet.

It is that Trump — the accused kingpin of the scheme to overturn Joe Biden’s victory, who was charged on Monday along with 18 others — could in 17 months be raising his right hand as the 47th president and swearing to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution he was accused of plotting to shred.

Trump, the kingpin, sounds about right to me. What an apt description for a man who has made millions from scamming people. Trump is an unabashed narcissist, who is only loyal to himself. Trump can’t become the next President — again. Biden isn’t perfect, but he is a much better option than Trump. Trump tried to overthrow the government. The American people can’t choose someone who isn’t loyal to America.

The grave political crisis created Trump’s aberrant presidency and subsequent efforts to hold him to account deepened significantly just before midnight with the unsealing of yet another indictment against him — this one from a grand jury in the critical swing state of Georgia. The charges in this state case — which bring to 91 the total number of criminal charges he’s facing across four separate cases — intensified an already epochal collision between Trump’s now extreme legal quagmire and the 2024 election in which he is the front-runner for the Republican nomination.

Trump will be nominated. That is a fact. Why? He still has so many followers willing to throw their support behind him. These people are idiots! They watch FOX News and NEWSMAX. They don’t read newspapers. They listen to conservative radio and podcasts. They’re sheep. They don’t think for themselves. There are millions of people in the U.S. who worship at the altar of Trump. Trump will get the Republican nomination — even from behind bars.

The 98-page indictment includes 41 counts that chart in stunning detail an alleged conspiracy to pressure local officials, make false statements about electoral fraud to state legislatures, harass election workers, and solicit Justice Department officials and then-Vice President Mike Pence. It also alleges an attempt to unlawfully breach election equipment in Georgia and elsewhere and includes a list of actions by Trump and associates it says were all attempts to advance the conspiracy.

Trump and his minions did a lot in Georgia. This is some Communist-level crap. This is why fascism is growing in America. Too many so-called Americans no longer want a democracy. They want to be ruled by someone. They want a dictatorship. Look what’s happening in Florida and Texas. Those two states are a preview of what’s to come in this nation.

“Trump and the other defendants charged in this Indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump,” the indictment said.

I have never seen such a level of sore loser before in my life. Another example of a toxic male (Trump) who can’t deal with rejection. Instead of bowing out gracefully, Trump decides to stage a coup. January 6th was a day of insanity in Washington D.C. Thousands of people descended on the Capitol Building. Hundreds entered the building and trashed the place. With another Trump indictment, will January 6th be repeated?

It is surreal. But Trump has now made indictments of a former president — which were unprecedented just months ago — seem routine. In addition to the Georgia case, he has been charged by special counsel Jack Smith in two separate federal cases related to the mishandling of classified documents and efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The ex-president also faces a March trial in Manhattan in a case arising from a hush money payment to an adult film actress in 2016. Trump has pleaded not guilty in these three cases and is certain to do the same in Georgia. He is likely to claim that his assault on the integrity of the Peach State’s election was merely an exercise of his right to free speech.

Trump doesn’t know the meaning of free speech. Trump is a spy. He uses cloak-and-dagger methods to gain an advantage. Trump's pleas of not guilty mean nothing. He will find a way out of this situation. Trump will recruit the best lawyers from his followers’ money to get him out of this situation. As for his co-conspirators, they will take the fall for Trump. They will suffer prison rather than give up Trump. It’s sick.

I urge every American who is registered to vote to make sure they get out and vote. Every vote counts. All elections are important. Whether it’s a local, state, or national election. If you don’t vote then your rights will be taken away from you. And you won’t even know that they’re gone.
