Trump is Guilty on All Counts
But He Can Still Hold the Highest Office in the Land
Special Counsel Jack Smith stated in his report that Trump would have been found guilty if his case had gone to trial. Yet on Friday, January 10th, a judge sentenced Trump without jail time or probation. Trump was labeled a felon, but what does that mean if there are no consequences?
Thousands of men and women have a run-in with the legal system every year. Consequences could range from a warning to jail time, depending on the infraction. If a person is convicted of a serious crime like bank robbery or murder, they’ll receive a prison sentence depending on the circumstances of the case. Sentencing will be harsher for repeat offenders.
Millions of people struggle to get a job because of a felony conviction. Some can start businesses, but many don’t have the capital or training to do so. If they manage to get a job, it’s at minimum wage. In today’s economy, paying rent, buying groceries, and caring for a family is insufficient. Many people return to crime to make money and feed their families. The stigma of being a felon follows them everywhere.
