The App’s Popularity Could Jeopardize Biden’s Chances at a Second Term

The Republican-controlled House voted today (March 13th) to ban TikTok if the owner, ByteDance doesn’t sell the company. ByteDance, a company based in China, has made TikTok a global social media platform. The app’s popularity is especially apparent in the United States, with millions of users.

While I am on TikTok, I am not an influencer. I am on the low end of the following count. My total followers barely crack 2,500 and I can’t monetize my pages — yet. I’m trying to figure out how to increase my followers. I hope to get 10,000 followers between my two pages by the summer — if TikTok is still around.

On the other hand, TikTok has millions of creators who have 10,000 or more followers. They are making money off the platform. For many, TikTok has become their main source of income. In addition, since the inception of TikTok Shop, many small businesses have flourished on the platform. The bottom line is this — if TikTok goes there will be a lot of upset creators in this country. And many of those creators are 18 or older — eligible voters.

President Biden has stated that if the House and Senate pass the TikTok ban bill he will sign it into law. Meanwhile, former President Trump, who tried to get TikTok banned during his administration is now an avid TikTok supporter. His new target is Facebook. Trump is betting on Biden to sign the bill and drive millions of TikTok users to his side.
