We all have those days when we get out of bed, rummage through our closets and dressers, pull out some clothes, and throw them on. There’s no rhyme or reason with the outfit. We’re getting dressed to start our day. But there’s a difference between wearing clothing and styling clothing.

Why is this important? Two reasons — 1) When you’re wearing your clothes, the outfit has no cohesiveness. For example, you could put on a sweatshirt with jeans and sneakers. The sweatshirt may be cropped, the jeans are baggy, and the sneakers are thick-soled. It may look just fine, but you’re not styling the outfit. 2) When you’re styling your clothes, you’re making an intentional effort to coordinate your outfit. You could add a large floral be to the sweatshirt, chunky jewelry, and large bangles in that example. You could cuff the jeans and add a thick belt with a chain. You could add charms and ribbons or have the laces match the sweatshirt’s color for the sneakers.
