The Infamous “Hero” has been identified.
The killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has been apprehended at a McDonald’s in Altoona. The police were alerted of the shooter by a McDonald’s employee after recognizing the shooter from photos. The police arrived and took the man into custody for questioning.
News outlets have reported that the man in custody is twenty-six-year-old Luigi Mangione. He was a valedictorian at his high school. Police found a silencer in the bag he carried, a manifesto against the health insurance industry,
Mangione is considered “a person of interest” by authorities and has not been formally charged with Thompson’s murder. Since the shooting on December 4th in New York City, social media has been abuzz with reactions over the shooting. Many commenters feel that Thompson deserved what happened to him and praised the shooter for putting CEOs everywhere on notice. Others were attracted to the shooter, with many women offering to hide the shooter at their homes.
This division over Thompson’s killing has shaken pundits and journalists. However, some theorize it's due to Americans' general anger and frustration about healthcare and other costs in the country.
