The Return of the Sun

I soaked up some Vitamin D

Today was gorgeous! The sun shone high in the sky. It finally felt like summer. The grass was green. There was a rustling of leaves as a breeze swept through the trees. People filled the sidewalks wearing tank tops, shorts, and dresses. It was truly a picture-perfect day.

I couldn’t get enough of it. The blue sky. The fresh air. The breeze caressing my skin. This is what life is about enjoying a summer Saturday. The weight of the world easing off my shoulders. I felt alive.

When you live in New England, you get used to crazy weather. Most of July has been a wet mess. It’s been great for nature. My plants have never looked so green and healthy. The animals love it too. I’ve seen so many different birds flying around like Robins, Blue Jays, and Cardinals. Rabbits hop in and out of natural shelters made from leaves and bramble. They nibble on the juicy plants and then return to their home.

I spent my time running errands and carpooling kids to activities. The teens wanted to go to Dave and Buster's. I dropped them off, provided them with tokens and cash for food and they were off to play the games. My sister and I hit the stores, strolling through aisles, and checking out sales. When the kids checked in, it was time to feed them and bring them home. Everyone was happy with full bellies.

This is how we all should enjoy the Summer season. No worries. No rushing around. We should just hit the beach, chill on our porches, or play in the park. I smelled BBQ as I drove the teens home. Loud music floated through the air from cars and back yards. People were taking full advantage of the gorgeous weather.

As day became dusk, I dropped some teens at the T station and brought the rest to their front doors. Then I shuttled my brood home. The dog greeted us as we pulled into the driveway. The air was still warm and mosquitoes buzzed around us. I sit on my couch as I type this essay with an episode of Spongebob playing in the background. Yes. This is Summer.
