The Pursuit of Purpose

Find your joy.

The clouds are in the way. The sun is hidden. The days become dark by 430 PM. Where is your purpose? Have you stopped pursuing it? Welcome to your reminder.

Begin. One simple one is all it takes. Begin. You know what you want to do. But you are in your own way. You throw up excuses, I know. I did, too. I still do. Tired. Depressed. Lazy. They’re all excuses. You can do this. We can do this! Find your joy.

What is joy? It’s that feeling that bursts within you when you’ve found your purpose. That purpose brings you happiness. That happiness becomes a joy. It will fill you to the brim within your being. An adrenaline rush. You become giddy. You can’t stop smiling. Your energy level is past full. That is joy.

You have to travel many miles in life to get to your joy. Joy is a utopian city with crystal skyscrapers pointing towards an azure sky. This city sparkles in the sunlight. It glows in the moonlight. Your joy is a paradise waiting for you.

As a writer, I often find myself searching for ideas. My brain can’t focus on writing. It wants to watch television or scroll through social media. What’s on Tik Tok today? Who just posted on Instagram? But those are people who have found their purpose. They’re living their joy. I need to live mine.

I like to write when it’s quiet. That’s what I’m doing now as I type this piece. It’s early in the morning. The tv is off. The lights are low. Everyone is asleep — except me. I woke up because I needed to pee. Once I was finished in the bathroom, the urge to return to sleep had left me. Even though I’m still yawning, I have work to do.

Find your joy in the places and spaces that resonate with you. Listen to music. Turn down the lights. Read the work of an author you admire. Search for prompts or examples to spark your creativity. Whatever you like to do, there’s something on the internet for you. Find your joy. Find your purpose. Be happy.
