The Grammys: Fashion Review
The Stars were out tonight
Trevor Noah hosted the 66th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Since I tuned in, Miley Cyrus, SZA, and Taylor Swift all won Grammys (for Taylor, it was her 13th Grammy). Swift also announced that her new album which she kept a secret for two years will drop in April. Of course, the audience shouted with joy.
The dress code was black and white. The men wore tuxes and the women wore gowns. That is understandable since the Grammys are the Oscars of music. The celebs didn’t break the dress code. Oprah wore a shimmery black gown. Swift wore a white gown with black detailing. Lizzo, who presented a category, wore an all-black ensemble. Noah began with a white tux and then switched soon after to a black tux.
Stevie Wonder led the way in the tribute to departed musicians. He wore all black leather. Even Wonders’ piano was all black. Wonders’ trademark braids were gone, covered by a black leather cap. His glasses were also all black. He did a great duet with the departed Tony Bennett.
Trevor Noah is a good host but can be hot or miss with the jokes. He asked one woman in the audience why she didn’t have more kids. I knew he was joking but the question was still a bit awkward. The woman was good about the situation and laughed off Noah’s question. But Noah needs better joke writers or go back to hosting late-night television.
I enjoyed watching the Grammys in real-time. The three-hour difference wasn’t a hindrance. Both coasts benefit from watching the stars shine and honor their own. Maybe one day I can be backstage watching the show. That would be great!
