The best and the worst of the evening

When I was a kid, I watched award shows for the celebrities. I didn’t know anything about fashion beyond the fact that the celebrities were always dressed up. As I got older, I became more and more interested in the clothes they wore. I began to take note of colors, styles, and details. I was interested in the designer who created the outfit. I also took note of trends that foretold what would be worn in the next season.

Now, as I make fashion writing a part of my career, I’ve loved the area of fashion critiquing. Celebrities, many of whom are millionaires or even billionaires, often wear designs that don’t showcase their wealth. I often wonder if they would have been better off picking up an outfit at Nordstrom’s or Saks Fifth Avenue.

This year’s Golden Globe Awards didn’t disappoint when it came to fashion. Men and women in film and television came dressed in their formal (and not so formal ) attire. Some pieces were exquisite and captured the beauty of the celebrity. Some pieces were boring and looked out of place on the celebrity. Still, others were downright fugly and should have been kept on the rack.
