A four-month postponement of the 75th Emmy Awards because of last year’s actors’ and writers’ strikes resulted in an oddity of Hollywood scheduling: back-to-back awards shows.

The Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler on Sunday in Los Angeles, could have been a mere opening act to the Emmys on Monday. But because the awards recognize movies as well as television, film actors running full tilt at Academy Award nominations were loath to miss an opportunity for face time. (The next class of Oscar nominees will be announced on Jan. 23.)
