Thankful For So Much

Getting to Thanksgiving 2022 was a Journey

2022 has been a series of ups and downs — COVID was up at the beginning of the year but went down significantly by the summer. But then monkeypox began to rise and by the fall, many children were sickened by RSV, another virus. Masks are still optional but may need to come back if schools can’t get a handle on infections.

The economy also saw many ups and downs — the rise of the “Great Resignation”, ships backed up at major ports, food and gas prices rising, the threat of a recession (which is still possible), and the student loan debate. Money is tight as the country enters the annual shopping season beginning with Black Friday.

Then there were the midterms and the coming of the Red Wave. The Republicans were poised to take both the House and Senate, turning Congress into a MAGA shit show, Fortunately, the wave was more of a low tide. The Democrats maintained control of the Senate but lost the House by a slim margin. In major races across the country, the majority of Trump-backed candidates lost. Georgia is in a runoff election between Warnock and Walker. While Stacey Abrams was denied the Governorship, hopefully, Georgia will correct its mistake by sending Warnock back to Washington. Walker is a mess and a half and shouldn’t be representing Georgia in any way, shape, or form (besides he’s a resident of Texas).

While November comes to an end, December looms full of celebrations and gatherings. People are preparing for 2023. We’ve had enough of political scandals, racist terrorists, and mass shootings. We want guns off the streets, murderers in jail, and Trump a thing of the past. My wish is for good health, opportunities for wealth, and a publication deal. I want everyone to win at something.

I’m thankful for my family and friends. I visited my mom today at her gravesite. Someone stole the angel that had watched over her resting place for five years. They also took her artificial flowers (again). I need to get my mother’s headstone situated. But my grief and wayward spending habits have delayed the headstone. I will rectify that as soon as tomorrow., paying what I can until the headstone is paid off. I owe my mother for so much.

Happy Thanksgiving!
