Thank you for your article. I disagree. Black excellence is real. Black excellence isn't about transcending Blackness. Black excellence is about transcending the chains of racism and oppression that wish to hold us back because we are Black. The example you used in your opening paragraph do not know what Black excellence truly means. They equate money with power and power with privilege. Those celebrities believe that White people will accept them if they're making the same amount of money as them. Those celebrities don't know the history of Black excellence. It is a history rooted in showing the White world that Black people can br great despite being surrounded by hate. Greatness is not money. Greatness is creating work that stands the test of time. The poems of Phillis Wheatley. The works of W.EB Dubois. The speeches of Frederick Douglass. The Black inventors of the 1800 and early 1900s. The Harlem Renaissance is all about Black excellence. There are so many examples. It is only now, in the 21st century, that Blacks have forgotten that its what we created that makes us excellent - not how much money we make.
