I recently picked up STORM Issue # 1. Murewa Ayodele wrote the issue, which features art by Lucas Werneck, Mateus Manhanini, Alex Guimaraes, and others. The issue’s cover is beautiful, representing Storm in her most potent form. She is surrounded by light, fire, the cosmos, and her power. Storm is a lovely Black woman who deserves this issue (long overdue).
My mind is still processing the storyline of issue # 1. However, I need more understanding to give readers a general idea. Storm and another young Black woman (a mutant and superstrong) are in Oklahoma during a terrible tornado. Nature is out of control, and Storm must calm the maelstrom. During the destruction, Storm locates the source of the disaster — a young boy whose mutant powers are out of control. Storm rescues the boy and ends the chaos — but it comes with a price.
But let’s talk fashion. The issue begins with Storm in her home in Atlanta, Georgia. Her hair is wrapped in a scarf, and she’s wearing an elegant robe with a plunging neckline. Storms cues up images of her past selves on a giant screen. It is a fashion buffet.
Four images appear on the screen. They show Storm in various stages of her superhero career. Like her uniforms, her hair also changes, ranging from a mohawk to a pixie cut to a flowing white mane. Storm knows how to wear…
