Scuffed Shoes Become Pristine Again
When I was a kid, I would scuff my patent leather shoes, sneakers, and boots with abandon. Running on cement sidewalks, walking up brick stgaircases, and rubbing against just about everything would leave my footwear a scarred mess. But for some reason, my mother never made a fuss over my scuffed up shoes. I was amazed.
My mother always fussed when we were children — especially over our clothes. We didn’t have a washer or dryer in our house and the nearest laundromat was several blocks away. We’d have to lug trash bags full of dingy, smelly clothes through the neighborhood to the laundromat and spend several hours washing, drying, and folding the clothes. Once that was done, we’d lug the clothes back home. It was usually an all day affair.
But when it came to our shoes, my mom didn’t say a word. We’d beat up our shoes with scratches and nicks, and mom didn’t bat an eyelash. With our clothes, she’s go nuts when they got dirty. But with our shoes, she’d practically ignore their rough appearance. It was a total head scratcher for my brother and I.
Until I learned from mom, why she didn’t complain about our shoes. One day, I was walking past by mother’s bedroom when I saw her sitting on her bed cleaning her shoes. Mom rubbed a washcloth over her patent leather pumps…
