Don’t Lose Hope

Dear Afghani People,

I cannot begin to fathom the nightmare you’re currently going through. I know you’re afraid. I know you’re looking to leave your country. Despite it being your home, a place where generations of families lived, it is no longer a welcoming place. I am sorry that it has come to this. I wish that a better plan had been put in place to evacuate people. The Biden Administration needs to fix misstep as soon as possible.

Please wait at the airport. But not on the tarmac. Please don’t crowd the planes. Please don’t hold onto planes while the planes are going down the runway. Don’t go into the air on the outside of the planes. The video of people falling to their deaths is too much to bear.

President Biden stated that “he didn’t regret” the decision to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan. Indeed, the United States has been involved in the war for twenty years. Four different presidents made decisions on the war that cost thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars. Biden chose to end the war under his presidency.

Based on what I’ve seen on the news, your country is in a state of chaos. The Taliban control Kabul. The President of Kabul and his administration have already fled the country. The Afghan army has given up on fighting the Taliban. They offer no resistance as the terrorist group stormed Kabul and took over government offices. I can see why people ran for the airport.

But do not give up. I believe the Biden Administration will make this right. They will help you. The administration will send more planes and troops to get people out of the country. They will not leave you stranded under the Taliban’s strict rule. I just hope we can get people out before the Taliban starts hunting them down.

Stay strong!
