New York Fashion Week Cometh
September 7th — September 14th
New York Fashion Week begins on September 7th. Christian Siriano will start off the proceedings.
It will be a week of showings, gatherings, and partying as celebrities, fashion designers, stylists, and fashionistas will descend on New York City.
There’ll be hotel soirees, meetings between designers and the paparazzi, and tons of models walking the runways. Throngs of people will people watch and try to catch a glimpse of the glam.
It was my hope to be one of them.
I wanted to be in NYC, trying to get into shows as a fashion journalist or as a volunteer. But I lost the nerve. I return to work on September 6th and immediately leaving for a week would not be a good look. As a teacher, I don’t want my students to get off to a bad start.
But then I feel bad for not committing to my plans as a Fashionphile. I’m torn. Part of me wants to be at NYFW and part of me wants to be in the classroom.
As I try to build my fashion profile, I’ve spent the summer watching videos, listening to Fashionphile and stylists share tips on the industry, and building my social media presence.
As we enter the fall, I will continue to read Vogue, watch fashion shows online, and work on monetizing my social media platforms.
I will have to satisfy myself by watching videos online from NYFW. I’ll do commentary and post my thoughts on social media. But I plan to be at NYFW in September 2023. I need to get out of education and begin my dream carer, writing, traveling, and curating fashion.
Consequences be damned.
