Listen to the songs that stir your soul.

So I’m watching the American Music Awards hosted by Cardi B. It’s clear that Cardi is nervous and she even admits as much. She’s already done two outfit changes and came out on a pile of luggage to introduce Tyler the Creator. Tyler gave a great performance full of raw emotion and relevant themes. Cardi does some humor in between awards and performances. She makes me chuckle.

I love watching awards shows. Growing up, it was the highlight of the week to watch my favorite artists receive an award for their music. I would cheer when an artist won and boo when my fave artists didn’t win. For instance, I like Taylor Swift, but there were at least two other artists nominated that should have won (Dua Lipa being one of them). Any time Taylor Swift is mentioned as a nominee, it’s a sure bet that she’ll win the award. Her music is good but there are better artists out there.

Music makes us react in many ways. It can make us dance, sing along, or take action. Music can make us remember our first love, first kiss, and first fight. When I listen to my favorite music, I’m taken away from where I am. For a few minutes, I am transported to a world where music rules and I’m a willing listener.

Cardi just came out in a new outfit. This one is not cute. It looks like she has two pies over her boobs and an enlarged belly button over her mid section. The dress is a putrid green color. It’ has flow, which I like, but that’s the only thing positive about the outfit. Who is Cardi’s stylist?! I could have done a better job selecting her dress.

I’m a fan of Hip Hop,, R n B, and dance hall music. I like music that makes me move. I want to get up and sing along. I want songs to give me an experience. If I’m feeling depressed, I want the song to lift me out of the darkness. If I’m feeling happy, I want the song to be a celebration. I don’t like slow music or anything too loud. I don’t want my eardrums to pop. I just want to move my butt and let the music’s energy envelope me.

When you listen to your favorite beat or song, let it take you somewhere. Don’t resist the pull. Allow your mind, heart, and body to be transported away. Music relieves stress. Music energizes us. Music gives us a reason to go on. Let your favorite music transform you.
