The Unofficial Start of Summer
While flags are being planted in cemeteries and parks to remember fallen service members, cookouts and gatherings are also on tap for Memorial Day weekend 2024.
If the weather is cooperating in your part of the country, then there will be plenty of families and friends getting together to enjoy the holiday. Backyards will be bustling with kids running to and from inflatable pools, grandparents will be setting up the tables and piling on the plates. There will be food galore and laughter aplenty.
Memorial Day weekend is also the unofficial start of Summer. While the actual day is in late June, Memorial Day has always been seen as the jump off point for Summer. The days are longer and the nights shorter. Summer heat begins to ramp up. The evenings have a cool vibe. People are out and about all day and night.
