Medium Interference: A Black Writer’s Plea

Medium, you’ve ignore me for years and now you’re trying to shut me down?!

I received a surprising message to two of my recent Medium pieces. Both the pieces were fashion posts and had received good views . An Adrienne Gibbs sent me a note asking if I was enjoying Medium and if I had used AI in the pieces. I hadn’t. I am a talented writer and while I do research and use sources for my pieces, I write in my own words.

I was insulted by Ms. Gibbs note. Here I am trying to eek out a living on this platform and I received this insulting message about my pieces. Look, Medium has ignored me since I began on this platform. I was surprised when I was asked to monetize my pieces. I wish they had asked me two years ago! As it is, I make pennies for some of my popular pieces. So why is Ms. Gibbs bothering me?! It’s not like Medium has paid out thousands of dollars to me on my writing.

Ms. Gibbs, please leave me alone. Leave my pieces alone. Let me write and let me post my writing,, I’m trying to build an audience based on my passion for fashion. I don’t need Medium interfering on my growth on this platform. AI is a tool. I’ve used AI for my art. AI is good for generating ideas. But I have to turn the ideas into sentences and paragraphs. AI can’t do that for me.

I am a writer. I am a blogger. I’m a researcher. AI is here and it can be helpful, but don’t assume my pieces are full of AI content. I am an educated Black woman who is very well read. Don’t sleep on me!
