Our babies? Not our babies!
Black babies had their bones broken in the NICU. A Virginia nurse, a white nurse, placed her paws on Black babies’ bodies and snapped their bones. It is inhuman. How can someone charged with the care of infants commit such a horrid act?
This is another reason why the Black community has such a distrust of the medical community. Our people have been misdiagnosed, underdiagnosed, overmedicated, undermedicated, denied treatments, and charged for unnecessary treatments, not to mention the millions of Black and Brown people who have died in the country due to no access to medical care or doctor negligence. Many doctors still believe in 2025 that Black people have a higher pain tolerance.
In this country, Black children have suffered under the racist and oppressive practices committed against them. During the Enslavement period, Black children were taken from their mothers, often as infants, and sold away. Black children were denied access to schools as reading and writing was illegal. Black children were frequently used as bait for gators and as their meals.
