Kendrick is King
KDot’s Pop-Up Concert Solidified His Rap Status
June 19th, 2024, will be remembered as the day Kendrick Lamar, “aka KDOT,” became King of Rap. I wasn’t in L.A. to see the show live, but I have spent the past 48 hours watching snippets and videos of the concert featuring KDOT and other rap heavyweights.
From what I saw, it was the show to end all shows. I don’t think other artists could put on anything more significant this year. They’re better off waiting until 2025. Just make sure the concert is before June 19th. We know Drake was in one of his mansions grinding his teeth as he watched KDOT’s concert. And we know he was watching!
The concert featured an all-star lineup of artists, including Dr. Dre, Roddy Rich, YG, and Schoolboy Q. The venue was packed with thousands of fans. I could tell from the video that it was loud in that space. At one point, Lamar had the audience light up their phones in honor of Tupac. All those lights were beautiful things to see.
The best part of the concert was when celebrities and gang members danced on stage while Lamar rapped “Not Like Us.” Men who were former enemies hugged and dapped each other up. Black men pranced and jigged across the stage as the crowd sang along. Men swung their arms around and skipped like children. KDOT dapped up many of the men, who twisted their bodies with joy.
Lamar was instrumental in bringing rival L.A. gang members together. Everyone crowded around KDOT for a group photo at the concert's end. It was a wonderful photo of respect and unity. Lamar has been lauded for his work with the L.A. gangs. This concert was indeed an event.
