It’s An Issue in Black and Brown Communities

Watching the BET Awards, I wondered about the nominated artists' impact on Black and Brown communities. Music is our heritage. Social Media are platforms to express our creativity. Black excellence can be found in many artists from the past and present. It fuels artists of the future. But money, power, and respect have a dark side. Many artists don’t strive to present positive images or messages to impressionable young people.

When you have students singing lyrics or dancing to Hip Hop tunes in public schools, you wonder who is raising these children. The lack of morals and/or home training is apparent when dealing with a student swearing at you and throwing chairs, tables, or whatever around the classroom. You know there is no home training going on.

There’s an element in our communities that would rather be raunchy and hood than educated and organized. Yes, education in America has not supported Black and Brown minds, but we can’t buy into the negativity of racism. Our people need to be elevated and coordinated against the endless attacks against our communities.

Music and social media is raising our children. Parents work and run the streets while music and social media babysit their children. Our kids are addicted to their phones. They…
