I’m confused about JD Vance, Donald Trump’s newly-minted Vice President. He doesn’t strike me as someone ready for the big stage.

He checks off the boxes — young (36), married, and a politician. But this is his first year as a senator, and he’s been catapulted to Vice Presidential candidate. When he debates current Vice President Kamala Harris, will he be able to answer questions about national and international issues without sounding like a newbie?

In addition, his feelings for Trump have entirely changed. Just four years ago, Vance lambasted Trump and dubbed him “America’s Hitler.” Vance stated he was a “never Trumper” and called Trump “an idiot.” Vance was clearly against Trump being president, and now he’s Trump’s VP pick. Trump either hasn’t read or heard Vance’s comments or was able to sway Vance to his side. I guess having the opportunity to be the second most influential person in America can change a person’s opinion.

It could also be that Vance had changed his thinking long before Trump called him up. Vance has been quoted as stating women should “stay in violent relationships for the sake of the children.” He is also anti-LBGTQIA+ and anti-abortion (Vance wants to ban abortion in every state). Trump may have liked…
