I Don’t Blame Age. I Blame Money.

On Friday, November 15th, Iron Mike Tyson took on Jake Paul in what was deemed “the fight of the century.” It would be a clash of generations between Gen X Tyson and Gen Z Paul. Tyson, 58, hadn’t been competitive in the ring in over twenty years. Paul, 27, a content creator turned boxer, has been making a name for himself as he rises in the ranks in the boxing world.

So, there was a fight, but it wasn’t the fight everyone had expected. The battle between the boxers went the complete eight rounds. In my opinion, the match should have been over in eight seconds. Commentators honed in on Tyson, who wasn’t throwing many punches, looked tired, and winded halfway through the rounds. On the other hand, Paul was landing blow after blow and deftly outmaneuvered Tyson the entire time.

But was it age that was Tyson’s Achilles heel, or was there something else? Many feel the fight was staged. Tyson was offered twenty million win, lose, or draw against Paul. Perhaps a part of the payout agreement was to let Paul win. I don’t know Tyson’s financial status, but twenty million dollars can persuade anyone to throw a fight. And I’m sure Tyson didn’t have any qualms about doing so.

If that was the case, then I am highly disappointed in Tyson. He should have beaten the brakes off of Paul. Paul should be in…
