I know what you mean about presentability. I wrote about the bonnet situation started by Mo'Nique. Regardless of how you feel about bonnet-gate as I call it, I do think there;s some validity to what she was saying. Our mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and elders, all caried themselves a certain way. They wouldnt dare leave the house in a bonnet, scarf or hair rollers. They wouldn't be all dressed up (unless it was for church), but they wouldnt leave the house wearing unironed clothes, ill-fitting clothes, house shoes like slippers, etc. It wasnt because of white people. It was about being presentabile in your own community.
