How I Elevated My Style
A Fashion Evolution
After watching various fashion influencers for four years, I noticed their style choices influencing me. Tashira from PoliticsnFashion, Monroe Steele from Steele NYC, and Je’nee Naylor affected your girl.
While I couldn’t afford all the clothing they presented in their videos, I began curating some pieces here and there over the years. I would buy a pair of jeans featured by Monroe, a piece of jewelry worn by Tashira, or purchase an item at a store mentioned by Je’nee. The more videos I watched on Instagram and YouTube, the more I visited websites and stores to buy those items.
It soon became evident that my style pillar had changed — more like evolved. I frequented fast fashion stores less and less. While I used to love shopping at Mad Rags and Rainbows, I am less drawn to their wild designs and over-the-top color schemes. I began shopping online at COS, checking out the racks at ZARA, and visiting Nordstrom.
While I have yet to abandon Mad Rags, Rainbows, and Primark, I prefer buying clothing from Target, H&M, and Anthropologie. The price points are higher, but the quality is much better. The clothing will last many seasons and not break apart after multiple washes. I also like getting the most wear out of my clothes and my money’s worth.
