The Rest of 2023 and 2024 will be Godzilla Time

I’ve been a fan of Godzilla ever since I was a child. As a little girl, Godzilla didn’t represent a big, scary monster to me. Instead, Godzilla was a misunderstood creature trying to find his place in the human world. I felt a connection to Godzilla. He was big, powerful, and intelligent. But he was always being disrespected — just like me.

I have seen every Godzilla movie ever made. From the original 1954 version to the latest release, Godzilla vs Kong. Every movie had its own style and flavor. The 60s had Godzilla go from menace to protector of the earth. The 70s had Godzilla continue in his protector role but also become more kid-friendly. He was given a cutesy face and did funny antics in his movies.

As I grew up, Godzilla became less important. I was no longer a little girl, but a teen interested in music, fashion, and boys — especially boys. I was also at an elite high school that required several hours of homework each night. I had my first job at a retail store which took up a lot of my time. While I was still a Godzilla fan, life placed other interests in front of me.

As I grew older, going off to college, I was focused on being a writer. Actually, I wanted to become a journalist and travel the world, reporting major news stories. But again, life detoured my dreams and I had to go to work to earn money. After another retail stint, I had my first major job at an insurance company.

It was at the insurance company that I met my boyfriend now husband. He was working in the mail room of the company. I was in clerical, inputting auto accident data into the computer. At first, I hadn’t noticed him, but after a few months, we had lunch, hung out, and became a couple.

My boyfriend had similar interests. He liked cartoons and monster movies. We would watch some at his house. When we went to the mall, a store selling Godzilla movies caught my eye. I immediately snatched them up. My love for Godzilla was reignited.

Since then, I have either purchased or downloaded Godzilla movies. I am a big fan of the reboot of Godzilla that began in 2014. Im definitely into the latest version of Godzilla as well as King Kong. I’m a Kong fan too. The big ape is intelligent, powerful, and agile. Even when Godzilla had him pinned, Kong would not yield. He roared right in Godzilla’s face. Even Godzilla was impressed by Kong’s bravery and defiance.

Recent announcements about Godzilla have been all over the internet. Godzilla fans are excited by the news. The next Godzilla x Kong movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, talks about an ape villain and his dragon sidekick. The ape villain has powers due to his long exposure to radiation. Godzilla and Kong must team up to defeat the Scar King and his minion, Shimu.

Toho Studios is remaking the original 1954 Godzilla film. The reboot is called Godzilla: Minus One. It’s a different take on Japan after World War Ii and as the country tries to start over, here comes Godzilla to make matters worse. Apparently, rumors tell of two Godzillas in the movie — one stomping on Tokyo and the other trying to stop him. The movie comes out in November 2023. I can’t wait to see it!

Earlier this week, Apple TV announced they would release a series based on Godzilla 2014. Apple Tv, having limitless funds, will chronicle the story of certain characters who have ties to Monarch as well as how they handle Godzilla’s premise in San Francisco. Apparently, the reviews are so good for the first season that the series has already been given a second season. Season 2 will focus on the aftermath of Godzilla versus Kong.

I’m still waiting to hear when Godzilla:: Singular Point, the Netflix anime series, will release its season 2. The first season provided snapshots of many Godzilla kaiju. It also had a cliffhanger with a skeleton of Godzilla in a warehouse. I want to know why the people have a skeleton of a kaiju and what they intend to do with it.

So, there’s a lot of Godzilla heading our way. For fans, it’s like an early Christmas gift. For me, it’s a chance to make more memories around my favorite monster. Godzilla, King of the Monsters, was the best creation ever to be made. A close second would be Gamera. And I’ll talk about the Gamera updates in my next piece.
