Freelancer Follies

My Words are not FREE!

Lately, representatives for hotels have been reaching out to me to write about their clients’ places. I’m sent the background info and I’m asked to provide my own spin and post it for my readers. As of now, I haven’t written a single piece.

While it’s good to build my writing resume to review hotels, I’d rather do it on my own. Why? Because the representatives aren’t paying for my time or service. They want free write-ups for their clients. I’m not doing that.

I want to build my clips based on my interests and those clients who are willing to pay for my services. The days of freebies have long since passed. It’s 2022 and freelancers deserve to be paid for their words

I want to build my clips but I also have bills to pay. I can’t do a review on a hotel or anything else for free. Hotels have money, and a budget, dip into that budget and pay me for my time and talent.

The representative I just spoke with told me there was no compensation for writing about a hotel that was designed for dog owners. While the hotel sounds great, I need to be paid for my work. No money equals no piece.

These people need to find a freelancer who will work for nothing.

That freelancer isn’t me.
