No Insurrections in Sight

On January 6, 2025 Congress certified the election results and Trump’s November victory. It was a quiet affair. Many would consider the mood somber. Madame Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the proceedings.

Only Republicans and their MAGA supporters were cheering and even the the cheers weren’t as loud as expected. Trump, a convicted felon, twice impeached during his first term in office, had regained the most powerful position in the land — the role of 47th President of the United States.

While a snow stormed raged outside, the congressional members fulfilled their duties towards certifying the vote. There weren’t droves of Democrats protesting in the streets. There weren’t hundreds of protesters flooding Capitol Hill. Police presence was at a minimum. There was no need to barricade doors or lock offices. Everything went smoothly.

But it still baffles me that Trump is about to reenter the White House. Did so many people truly forget Trump’s misdeeds while in office? What about how he handled the COVID crisis? A million people died during his watch. Why is everyone ignoring Trump’s treatment of protesters during George Floyd’s murder? Or how about his comment that “there are very fine people on both sides” after Charlottesville? Trump’s crimes are a mile long!
