My Experience at the NCTE Convention
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) held its national convention in Boston, Massachusetts, from November 21st to 24th. Teachers from across the state and country had opportunities to connect during this convention. Over 7,500 teachers attended the convention, which was held at the Boston Conference and Exposition Center (BCEC) in the city’s Seaport district.
The convention had panels, sessions, and workshops. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson gave the opening keynote on Thursday, November 21st, followed by the mid-convention keynote by Bryan Stevenson, author, lawyer, and prison reform proponent, and the closing ceremony keynote was held on Sunday, November 24th, by the Poet Laureate of the United States, Ada Limon.
In addition to the sessions run by teachers, college professors, and authors, there was the Exhibit Hall. The Exhibit Hall was full of publishing houses like Scholastic, Penguin Random House, and Disney, among many others, hosting book signings, author meet-and-greets, and giving away swag to attendees. It was on the convention center's lower level and housed an author talk space and a build-your-stack room for ceremonies and additional author talks. I often visited the Exhibit Hall during the convention and discovered something new each visit.
