Fashion and Style are Ageless
Don’t Let Age Define Your Look
As a Black fashionista over 40, I look for women in my age group who are killing it in the style arena. These sisters are fashionable, stylish and on trend (or creating their own trends). They’re inspirational and motivational, helping other women create their own looks. As I search for tips, these women are the blueprint to help me with my style. They offer advice and tips that won’t break the bank. Oftentimes, I’m shown women who do not look like me, wearing outfits I wouldn’t have my mother wear.
So I was thrilled to find in my research Black women, 40 and up, who are profiled on social media and in magazines for their fashion. Their outfit choices are rich and varied with bold colors and abstract patterns. They mix vintage with contemporary to create unique looks. They don’t follow the trends — they are the trends.
During Black History Month, we celebrate the men and women who have contributed to the development of the United States. Their contributions have made this country great (not some red hat wearing fools). Black men and women have brought creativity, culture, and style to this country. Our ancestors built this nation and their blood, sweat, and tears can not be erased.
Here are some Black women over 40 to follow on social media:
