Bridge Collapse, NJ/NYC Earthquake, & Dead Birds

In the past couple of weeks, there have been some strange happenings in the country (and not just Donald Trump once again being the Republican nominee for President). We’ve had a bridge struck by a freighter and collapse in Baltimore, a 4.8 Richter scale earthquake in the NJ-NYC area, and I viewed a video on Instagram of several small birds dead on a sidewalk. What the heck is going on?!
I mean, not the omen-believing type, but these events seem harbingers of something bigger to come. The birds are representatives of nature; whatever killed them must be something man caused. Based on accounts, the bridge collapse was a mechanical error that caused the ship to shut down right before the collision with the bridge. But was the ship inspected before it left its port? An earthquake on the East Coast is a rarity. Reports stated the last such happening was over one hundred and forty years ago. So, what caused it to happen now?
Unlike the West Coast, the East Coast is unprepared for a significant seismic event. California has zoning laws and building codes to prepare for an earthquake.
