As an emerging fashion writer, I always look for the latest trends. Each season brings new twists to old styles. Some pieces like denim jeans, wide-leg pants, and crop tops always stay in style. These pieces reappear every few years if not every year. Due to trends, these pieces undergo slight transformations to differentiate them from prior years.

I follow many fashion insiders on Instagram and TikTok. In addition, YouTube has become my go-to space for long-form fashion insights and vlogs. The fashion creators share their journeys in fashion, their brand favorites, and how they make their money. As someone who wants to work for herself shortly, I believe their videos are a masterclass in growing your audience and attracting clients.

On Instagram, there’s a content creator I recently started following who has taken layering to the next level. I won’t say her name, but she is a woman of color who displays her outfits in short IG reels. When I first started viewing her content, I fell in love with a piece she wore — a gray asymmetrical skirt. The creator wore this skirt over longer skirts, wide-leg pants, and jeans. The skirt covers half her bottoms with clean, pleated lines and a handy side button. It is a piece I wanted to add to my wardrobe.
