Jon Jones Put on a Show in and out of the Octagon
On Saturday, November 16th, Jon Jones took on Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight championship. There was quite a buildup to the main event. The prelim was action-packed, with cutaways to the upcoming Jones vs. Miocic match-up.
Jones, plagued by health and legal issues, appeared fine at the weigh-in Friday night. He stepped on the scale, flexing his muscles for an adoring crowd. Miocic also looked good as he flexed on the scale. Both men had gained weight, and the fight was confirmed.
True to form, Jones took down Miocic with a backward kick in the midsection. Miocic went down to the mat like a sack of potatoes. The referee stopped the fight, and Jon was declared the winner. Once he had won, Jon climbed the octagon fence, waving his hands as the crowd cheered.
President-elect Donald Trump and his entourage, including Elon Musk, Kid Rock, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Donald Trump, Jr., were in attendance. They arrived towards the end of the prelim matches and were greeted with applause in Madison Square Garden. I was shocked by the intensity of the applause since Kamala Harris had won New York.
