Celebrate Black History

Don’t let the Republicans or the Racists Stop You

It’s Black History 2023.

We’re still dealing with police brutality (Tyre Nichols).

Banning of Black books (in many Republican-led states)

And the banning of AP African American Studies and then the College Board guts it so it can be more “acceptable” to Florida Governor Ron Desantis (who may run for president).

Despite 2023 coming in like a maniac, there is much to celebrate this month.

Beyonce is going on a world tour. Her Beyhive is going crazy trying to score tickets for her concert.

Angela Bassett became the first actress to receive an Oscar nomination for a role in a Marvel movie.

Sheryl Lee Ralph continues to win awards for her role in “Abbott Elementary.”

Black History is American History. It is shameful that there are so many people who want to distort, hide, and erase facts from that history. It is a situation that continues to get worse.

However, you can’t erase history. History is a seed. It will grow. History is like stone. It can’t be destroyed. History is in every vein of this country. It is in America’s DNA.

In addition, there are a plethora of Black academics and scholars who will not allow Black History to be distorted. America has to deal with its crimes against Black bodies.

Social Media is definitely an ally when it comes to getting the facts out to the public. Regardless of what Desantis and his ilk try to do in Florida and other states, you can’t stop people from posting information online. Instagram and Tik Tok have been booming with posts by Black influencers about Black History. The information is plentiful. It can’t be denied.

So read, listen to podcasts, and watch Youtube, or social media posts about the contribution of Black Americans and the crimes committed against Black people in this country. The truth cannot be hidden. It will come out one way or another — whether racists like it or not.
