Brothas and Sistas in Blue
I have Some Words for You!
Let’s me be crystal clear — I know it’s not all of you. I know Black men and women police officers are trying to help communities of color, mentor young people, and de-escalate violence.
But many of you either turn a blind eye when white cops assault us or even participate in the assault.
Why?
I understand the saying, “Not all skin folk are kinfolk,” but come on! Your spirit can’t be at ease with what you see in these streets.
Take, for example, the Sonya Massey tragedy. An innocent Black woman calls the police for help and winds up dead. If there are any Black officers in that department, how are you feeling about this shooting?
Another example I saw on Instagram is a group of young Black men in the Bronx. One of them was snatched up to be arrested for allegedly having an open container (he wasn’t the one). As the officers were trying to restrain him, one of them, a white man, began punching the young man in the face and head. Several of the officers restraining the brotha were Black!
