Black men, instead of dissing us, we need you to help us. The way you can help us is to stop dissing us, stop blaming us for your troubles, and stop lumping us all together when one of us does you dirty. Black people aren’t a monolith, and neither are Black women. We come from all walks of life. We’ve been through our share of struggles and traumas. Some of us have hearts of gold, and some of us have hearts of stone.
Black men, we know you have your struggles, too. We know you’ve been through some drama and trauma. But we need you not to take it out on all of us. Why do you think we chose the bear in the forest? The bear has also struggled but knows not to take it out on his mate — or there will be no cubs.
Black men, we need you to save us from other Black men who would use us as either a punching bag or a scapegoat. These brothers would rather lay on the couch smoking weed, playing video games, and eating all the food than pay a bill. Black women need you to save us from the brothers who cheat on us and then gaslight us about the cheating.
Black men, we need you to be fathers to our children—whether they’re yours or not. A two-parent household must have two incomes. Black men, you need a job that can help pay the bills…
