Black Men: What Happened?

The Social Media Trend of Black Men verbally attacking Black women has gone too far.

Kevin Samuels built a significant social media presence by bashing and insulting Black women. Despite his harsh words towards women, Black men and women flocked to his YouTube channel. I had watched a few of Samuels’ videos and was appalled by his rudeness towards Black women. He would call women “old,” “fat,” “low caliber,” etc. His words made me wonder why Samuels hated Black women so much.

When Samuels unexpectedly died, I hoped his vitriol would die with him. Sadly, it has not. Many Black men who were devoted followers of Samuels started posting videos about Black women across Social Media. Many of these men were using the same language to insult and demean Black women. Samuels’ legacy lives on in these Black men who are telling Black women how to act, dress, and treat Black men.

I recently viewed some videos on Instagram that left me shaking my head. The Kevin Samuels devotees are insulting older Black women. One video, posted by a Black man, stated that Black women over 35 need “to stop living in a fantasy world.” He was referring to those women over 35 who decide to leave their men.
