Biden on the Attack
Goes after Trump and the MAGA Republicans
Biden’s recent speech in Philadelphia has set up a firestorm on both sides of the aisle.
Over the past year, since leaving office, Trump and his supporters have regained strength through the many legislative laws on the local, state, and federal levels. By federal level, I mean the Dobbs decision handed down by the Supreme Court.
Despite Trump’s current legal issues involving top secret, highly classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump has seen his campaign chest increase exponentially. His supporters are literally throwing money at a possible Trump run for president.
Meanwhile, Trump's political heirs, Governor Abbott of Texas and Governor DeSantis of Florida have been passing laws on abortion, gender, and education that set both of those states back about 75 years. Other Republican governors are following suit as well. The Red States are getting redder and are outnumbering the Blue States
During Biden’s speech, the President stated, “Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic.”
And I would agree with both sentiments. However, as an African American/Black Caribbean woman, I’m not surprised by what’s happening in this country. America is going through social and economic unrest not seen since the Civil Rights Movement.
More and more, people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, and Generation X through Z women, have become increasingly vocal about the way American society operates. White privilege, book banning, the attack on teachers, and gender inequality have created a tsunami of outrage. People are sick and tired of being sick and tired and are doing something about it.
Since 2021, the United States has seen a rise in employees quitting their jobs for either better work or starting their own businesses. The pandemic has changed the way of work in this country — to the benefit of the employee. People are literally telling their bosses to take this job and shove it. People are starting their own companies and reaping the benefits of being their own bosses.
This year, a new employment phrase has evolved called “quiet quitting.” Those employees who haven't left their jobs are slowly making their exit by only doing what’s in their job description — and no more. Employees aren’t going to come in early, stay late, or work weekends. They’re not doing extra assignments and are taking advantage of personal and vacation time. For these employees, it allows them more time for family and personal pursuits. Eventually, these employees will leave their companies.
With all of this happening, the MAGA Republicans fear their way of life disappearing. Basically, being racist, ignorant self-privileged assholes aren’t going to cut it anymore in the 21st century. People are being called on the carpet for their actions. Their bad behaviors are posted all over the internet. Their rudeness goes viral and they wind up losing their jobs. MAGA Republicans want this new way of life to end.
Bident recognized in his speech that it’s not all Republicans who subscribe to this way of thinking. I think he’s being naive. The majority of Republicans in Congress support most if not all of Trump’s rhetoric. They’re going back to their red cities and red states and pushing Trump’s agenda. The Republicans tweak some of it to suit their position and get laws changed that impact voting, education, and gender rights.
These Republicans must be stopped. Voting is the only way. But we must have candidates — Democrat, Republican, or Independent — who will work for the people and not special interests. We need representatives who believe in the rights of all people. America is becoming a fascist nation. If that happens, democracy will die.
