Crackdown on Women’s Education Destroys their Futures and the Country’s

Recently, the Taliban announced that Afghan women can no longer attend university in the country. Secondary education has already been denied to millions of Aghani girls, now Afghan women cannot attend college. This is a continued effort by the Taliban to control women and stunt their future economic prospects.

This is one reason why so many people have a negative opinion of the Muslim religion. From having Muslim women covered from head to toe, honor killings, and restrictive living laws, denying Muslim women the right to an education is a decision that will have far-reaching consequences. No country can reach its full developmental potential unless all citizens can participate fully in that development.

Afghanistan has suffered for so long. Its history is riddled with wars and tribal disputes. When the U.S. occupied the country, it finally had some semblance of stability. Women were able to return to work and school. Enrollment by girls increased exponentially and progress was happening.

When the U.S. left Afghanistan, the Taliban regained control. First, they denied girls an education beyond elementary school. Now, they’ve prohibited women from attending university. Men and boys will enjoy the benefits of education and career. Women and girls are being forced to remain in their homes.

The Taliban wants Afghanistan to exist in the Stone Age. They don’t believe in the rights of girls and women. The Taliban wants to follow a strict interpretation of the Koran. They believe women are inferior to men. They only want women and girls to be at home, cooking and cleaning. The Taliban only wants women to produce children, preferably boys to continue the substandard treatment of women.

The women and men of Afghanistan who are against this backward regression must stand up and fight. Look at what’s happening in Iran. The people there, despite risking their freedom and their lives, have had enough of the government’s draconian rule. Women all over the world are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Men need to do better. They need women as equal partners. Women deserve a say in their own lives.

Women everywhere deserve better. Without women, men would be a mess. It’s happening in Afghanistan. It’s happening in Iran. It’s been happening in the United States for decades. Men don’t know better and that’s why problems arise.
